The beauty of Africa was irresistible, and our shared passion for it led us on a journey where our paths intertwined time and again. Now, as founders of Tanzania Safari Bug, our story is a testament to the magic of both love and the African landscape that brought us together.”

Meet Sandra: Creating Personal Connections and Tailored Adventures

I’m Sandra, and my journey to Tanzania began in 2014 when I moved here for both love and work. My background is in business management, which I studied at the University of Potsdam in Germany. When I arrived in Tanzania, I was captivated by its diverse landscapes and vibrant cultures, which inspired me to focus my career on tourism sales and marketing. I quickly realised that creating personalised safari adventures was my passion; and that together with Michael we could build a company that truly puts the travelers in focus.

I love getting to know our guests and learning about their travel aspirations, and I’m thrilled to be part of their journeys from start to finish. I enjoy chatting with them throughout the planning process, hearing their stories while they’re on the road, and staying in touch long after their trips have ended.

Our dedication to our guests is evident in every adventure we create, and we take pride in ensuring that each journey is tailored to individual interests and desires. And we really hope that our guests will be equally enchanted by the beauty of this country – just like myself when I first arrived. We really strive to create lasting memories and meaningful connections.

Meet Michael: A Journey of Conservation and Adventure

I’m Michael, born and raised in the beautiful landscapes of Tanzania. Growing up in a small village at the foothills of the Pare Mountains, nature and wildlife were always right on my doorstep. My passion for wildlife was sparked early on by my grandfather, whose captivating stories from the bush ignited my fascination with the natural world.

As a child, travelling with my parents through Tanzania was a formative experience. Witnessing wildlife roaming freely across the landscape, long before I even started school, left an indelible impression on me.

My journey into wildlife and tourism began at Mweka College of African Wildlife Management, where I gained a deep understanding of Tanzania’s ecosystems. With over a decade of experience as a professional safari guide, I am deeply committed to wildlife conservation and sharing my love for this land with our guests.

Being your Tanzania safari expert guide is about much more than just spotting animals; it’s about sharing the stories of the land, the wildlife, and the cultures that make Tanzania so unique. I’ve dedicated my life to understanding the intricacies of the natural world and to crafting experiences that leave a lasting impact. I love ensuring our guests have unforgettable adventures that showcase Tanzania’s natural beauty and wildlife encounters.

Our Story: A Shared Vision

Our journey together started in 2012 during a work trip to scout routes and accommodations in Tanzania. Michael was one of the guides and our connection was immediate. By the end of 2014, Sandra made the move to Tanzania, and together we founded Tanzania Safari Bug. Our company embodies the irresistible “safari bug,” a yearning for exploration and a deep connection to nature. As the saying goes, “Everything in Africa bites, but the safari bug is the worst of all”!

Our vision for Tanzania Safari Bug is to ensure each journey leaves a positive impact, not just on our guests but also on the local communities and ecosystems. We are dedicated to preserving Tanzania’s rich heritage and fostering respect for its traditions, ensuring that its vibrant stories are sustained for future generations. We believe in creating travel experiences that go beyond the ordinary, blending Tanzania wildlife adventures with cultural immersion.

“Honesty is at the core of everything we do. We build trust with our partners, employees and guests by being transparent throughout their journey. As a family, we believe in the power of unity—‘If you want to go far, go together.’ This African saying, and the philosophy behind it, drives us to work closely and support each other, ensuring we provide the best possible safari experiences.”

A Family Venture

Together, we have built a family and a business that is deeply rooted in the values of exploration, conservation and connection. Our two children are fluent in English, German and Kiswahili and share our passion for nature. Our oldest is developing a keen interest in photography, while both kids love elephants and zebras and enjoy being outdoors. As a family, we cherish exploring off-the-beaten-path locations in Tanzania, discovering the endless treasures this country has to offer.
