8-day Private Lodge Safari – Great Migration: Calving Season

Would you love to see one of the greatest spectacles on earth? Watching the Great Wildebeest Migration come together in one spot covering the southern Serengeti plains? Witnessing how millions of animals gather to give birth simultaneously? And how a new generation of wildebeests takes its first steps in this world and begins its struggle to survive in the face of nearby predators?

Join Tanzania Safari Bug on this 8-day private lodge safari with a special focus on the Great Wildebeest Migration during the months of December and March. The highlight is the expected calving during the month of February. This safari is ideal for nature enthusiasts, photographers, couples, families and friends travelling together.

The safari starts with a visit to Lake Manyara National Park for a soft introduction to the upcoming safari highlights. Together with a qualified guide, you will then proceed to the southern Serengeti plains for four overnights in Ndutu. Spend the next three days inside the Ngorongoro Conservation Area, which borders on Serengeti National Park, and witness one of the greatest spectacles on earth. Between December and March, the wildebeest migration gathers on the short-grass plains of Ndutu and Southern Serengeti. In February, the wildebeest cows are expected to give birth to a new generation – an incredible experience! Did you know that a newborn wildebeest can already stand on its own feet two minutes after birth? Or that it can run with the herd after just five minutes? Your guide can answer all your questions and provide you with more exciting facts. The calving season is also a feast for predators that target the young and weak. Hyenas, jackals and lions are a common sight.

Ask your guide to stop at one of the Masai bomas to learn more about their culture and interesting lifestyle. You can also visit Olduvai Gorge to explore Mary and Louis Leakey’s archeological findings.
